My most asked question.

Jonathan HallyburtonMy story

Whoever you are, when you do something that is a little unique, it can be hard to explain to people what it is that you do.

Do you assume people already understand a list of prerequisites when you tell them? Do you think you are making yourself clear when in fact you end up simply distancing yourself even more than when you started? Me too!

My most asked question to date: WHAT EXACTLY DO YOU DO?

My answer: I HAVE A TOURING MUSIC MINISTRY.

Nine times out of ten the conversation continues with questions like “WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?” or “WHAT DOES IT ACTUALLY LOOK LIKE?”. Today I want to clear things up. Today I want to make it easier for us both.

My name is Jonathan Hallyburton. As a born-again Christian, I want as many people as possible to know that Jesus saves from sin. He was born as a man, and He died as a man, yet He was 100% God at the same time. Why? Because He loves you and He loves me.

The way I tell people this astonishing and life changing news is by travelling the United Kingdom, Great Britain or whatever you want to call England, Scotland, Wales and Ireland, playing the piano and singing songs about Jesus. Wherever. Whenever. That is what I do.

Whether it is a Sunday service, morning or evening (yes people still have evening services), or maybe something different like a Saturday night concert, or even crazier still how about a Thursday morning session for retired folks, it doesn’t matter to me.

Of course, I always make sure I have the bible open from the word go. Without it I’d be lost. If the Bible is the word of God, and the word of God is ALIVE AND ACTIVE, wouldn’t I be a fool to not use it?

That’s the reason I use it to prepare my thoughts ahead of time, and why I love to share passages of scripture with everyone I’m in front of. Well that and the fact that without the Bible, I carry no message, and no hope, so what would be the point?

Those of you who know me personally know that I love a good story so yes there are stories in there as well; some funnier than others I’m sure, but no matter what, it’s always about pointing souls to Calvary.

Most places I visit will be churches and a lot of the time it will be as part of their normal service pattern which means I get to lead congregations in worship. I say I GET TO, because I see it as a real blessing and a real privilege to lead God’s people as we sing songs of praise and worship.

As I’m primarily a piano player, for some reason I’ve never been keen on the term PIANIST, hence the name JONATHAN HALLYBURTON CHRISTIAN PIANO PLAYER, I love to play some of my arrangements of classic hymns that we all know and love. Whether it’s WHAT A FRIEND WE HAVE IN JESUS, THE OLD RUGGED CROSS, or even something newer like HOW DEEP THE FATHER’S LOVE FOR US, there is always something for everyone.

Sometimes it serves the purpose of a performance. Sometimes it’s to quieten people’s hearts as we come to God. And sometimes it’s to give people a time for reflection.

Those of you with a keen eye for detail will notice that earlier I mentioned singing songs but haven’t yet told you anymore about that. The songs I share are all my own and I write them in the same way I said I prepare: with the Bible.

It would be very easy to write songs that don’t really say anything, or maybe write songs that have a vague Christian feel but contain no message. That is something I am 100% committed to not doing.

My songs are written with the Bible open on the piano not just my notepad.

If that’s the ambiguity cleared up, then why not get in touch via my contact form to chat more about how this ministry could come to your church. And if it’s not cleared up, get in touch anyway and we’ll soon sort that out.
